ESG Investment Returns

There are many methods for evaluating returns and many categorisations of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investments.

A good starting point for the discussion is a presentation by Nick Robins, Head of Climate Change Centre for Excellence at HSBC, "Will Sustainable Investing Survive The Recession? delivered at Gresham College on 23 September 2009 - slides. Mr Robins distinguishes among:

- Ethical investment: screening the status quo

- Responsible investment: extending the scope of risk management

- Sustainable investment: repositioning for long-term growth
